The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is located in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
Part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, initially founded in 1901, the institute conducts research in technology infrastructure, products and services. NIST also develops and distributes Standard Reference Data, including the NIST Special Database 28 National Software Reference Library (NSRL). The NSRL contains known and notable hash database.
